Our 50th class reunion is just over a month away ~ I look forward to seeing all of you in Alliance in August.
Friday, 7/15, is the deadline to register for our 50th class reunion ~ OVER 45 have already registered and more have indicated they will be registering soon.
Friday, 7/15, is also the deadline to get your info and current picture in for the reunion booklet.

If you are having trouble finding a motel reservation, try calling the motel directly ~ sometimes the “on the web” reservations are filled ~ but the motel does still have some vacant rooms.

Make this reunion special ~ our classmates in and around Alliance have worked very hard to plan the reunion ~ your attendance will show them your appreciation. Please register soon if you haven’t already done so.

Info and picture sent in by Roger Brooks: The traveling wall came to Sioux Falls SD in June of 2010. I signed up to stand guard on the wall and did so in honor of John. John and I graduated from high school together in 1961. He chose the Marines and I chose the Navy. Our class of 1961 will be holding our 50 year reunion in 2011 and the only information in all of our reunion books on John is his name with the word “deceased” following his name. This year with the help of Sharon Phillip’s website and the Army investigator who helped get John’s story to me, there is a lot more information. John, you are still with us and now your name will mean something to a lot more of your classmates.
From Roger Brooks also: I am putting together a booklet on John that is more detail than what I have sent to you. It will have references to several websites where his name appears and the profiles built by people who knew him. The only thing that I am not able to get my hands on is a picture of him in Vietnam. The ones you see on the internet I provided from our high school year book. This has been a goal of mine to give him the recognition he has never gotten. If there are any other veterans in our group I would very much like to know who they are. 71 classmates have submitted everything needed for the reunion booklet. I think all of you will enjoy the current pictures that are being inserted in the booklet for this 50th reunion. Please….the rest of you…..time is getting short. I am sitting here with 5000 sheets of paper to print the booklet, front and back covers, and binding spines ….but can’t begin until everyone has submitted their information. HELP!! - · another classmate having health issues per his wife, Gailynn Huck: Clyde had another setback Saturday (June 4th) he collapsed, due to low oxygen levels, spent two days in the hospital. He was released on Monday and is on oxygen.
- · Message from Tom McCawley ~ Sorry to hear about Richard Cowles would liked to have had time to sit down & chatted with him as I've found out we were distant relatives. My grandfather's sister had married a Cowles from S.D. who was Richard's father or grandfather. So much for that tid bit. Sorry to say I won't be able to make it to this reunion as my wife & I are committed to a booth in the Montana State Fair that weekend with our crazy raisins business. - · Phone call from Denny Shimp ~ Loren Studt has health issues and will be unable to attend the reunion. Don Sanders has been moved by his son to Salt Lake City UT to be cared for there.
- · Info about Paul Nelson after I made a lengthy phone call ~ Paul Nelson arrived by ambulance to Omaha’s Creighton Hospital for a 24+ hour stay. After a successful heart stent and bubble procedure, Paul is back to exercising regularly ~ cardiac rehab, running, and swimming. He and Doug Bedient plan to come to the reunion in August together.”

It is with deep regret that I must inform you that Vern Cowles passed away yesterday (June 1, 2011) of pancreatic cancer. He died peacefully at home in Huntington Beach, CA.

Update on Dixie Johnson ~ from son Bryan ~ 5/15 ~ She is doing better. Walking again; wrist seems to be healing. The screw comes out in June if all goes well. she is in the Good Samaritan nursing home in Alliance. I am not sure for how long. She had a minor setback; otherwise she would be home this next week.
I still need two volunteers to help at Newberrys building on Saturday ~ just to volunteer to be in the building for a two hour span in case other classmates are all out of the building. Send me an email if you will volunteer. Thanks.

Thanks Jim ~ good Job!! Diana Smaha, within 24 hours, responded with a promise to complete her information before the end of the month ~ that’s TWO!! Dick Graham followed with an email with an end of the month promise ~ that’s THREE!! Anyone else want to help by getting their information to me so I can fulfill this challenge??

The October 14, 2010, committee meeting accomplishments are posted here which includes the Schedule of Reunion Events.
Information about hotel reservations can be found here. The reunion committee will be reserving a block of rooms at the Day’s Inn and the Holiday Inn Express. The arrangements are not finalized. I will let you know when you can reserve a room for a special “reunion” price.
The reunion committee is unable to begin taking reunion reservations until after the November 2 meeting.

40’s, 50’s & 60’s pictures ~ This has a picture of a 1935 AHS graduating class with Dick Graham’s dad and Gary & Sharyn Jordan’s dad. Are there any other classmate’s parents in the picture?
I now have five 4th grade class pictures listed below that I want to post on the blog. I think I’m missing one class. If any of you have any other 4th grade class picture, let me know ~ probably from Central School.

All day Saturday’s reunion events will be held at Newberry’s. The committee needs volunteers for two hour blocks of time to agree to be at the Newberry’s Event Room from 9 am in the morning throughout the evening. Please let me know which two hour block of time you are willing to volunteer for:

One classmate is wondering if anyone remembers a Margaret Goodlett from Central School. I don't see Margaret in any of our annuals beginning with 1958. Does anyone know anything about Margaret? On August 30, this email was sent to 100 of our classmates ~ within 48 hours, there had been 100 visitors to our blog site ~ information came in for the "I Remember When...." post as well as current pictures and information for the booklet. Again....we discover that our classmates are computer savvy.
We have located all but one of our graduating classmates!!! The missing classmates post on the AHS Class of 1961 blog still lists Doug Young as "missing"...we also have Dale Moore and Rich Camarillo (they didn't graduate with us, but went to school in Alliance for many years ~ we are still searching for them also).

In the morning there had been 70 hits on the blog site....by the end of the day there were nearly 200 hits. Our classmates are computer savvy!!! A picture has been added to the “Message Board” of a “get together” of classmates in Alliance recently.
The planning committee will meet again on April 5th at 6:00 pm, in case any of you would like to attend.
A sample of the booklet has been posted ~ this will not be updated again ~ you will receive a final copy of the reunion booklet at the reunion. This site will give classmates an idea of what others are writing. We are asking what you have been doing the last 50 years ~ some classmates update for the last 10 years; some update for all 50 years; some classmates write one line, some write a paragraph, some write a whole page ~ it doesn’t matter what you send in for the booklet. Hopefully you won’t all send your information at the last minute ~ it takes time to update the booklet with your information.
Challenge for the month ~ I’m hoping to receive information from at least 24 classmates during the month of April. This will even out my workload on the reunion booklet. And…don’t worry…if all of you choose to send in your information to help me meet the goal, that’s OK. J

Bill Todd is having health issues ~ Bill’s wife, Sandy, sent an email that prompted me to make a new post called Message Board ~ please go to this new post. Unfortunately we have sad news on this email ~
Linda Snyder Voss died on December 27….she was living in Texas near her daughter, Jody. Linda’s memorial post is on the Blog.
Paul Thiessen ~ I heard from Paul’s daughter-in-law, Trich, on 12/28 ~
I wanted to let you know Paul had a major stroke yesterday. He is in ICU and cannot speak or communicate any of his needs. He also lost some movement. I will keep you updated on his progress.
On 12/30, Trich sent a message saying Paul was able to speak now ~ no news since that time.
Jane Gorder ~ I have not received any more news regarding Jane Gorder’s heart surgery.

he reunion committee held a meeting on November 2nd. Next meeting will be April 5th. Below is a synopsis of the outcome of the meeting.
Finalized Schedule of Reunion Events posted ~ the committee has approved an “open” gathering in the Newberry building ~ tell any of your interested friends and family they are invited to join our reunion at the Newberry Events Room on Saturday evening any time after 7:30 p.m.

Paul Nelson offered a ride to anyone needing a ride to the reunion from his location (Columbus Nebraska). From Paul: “ I would pick someone up, but I might not be there all three days. I could try to figure something out with someone. I only own a Toyota Camry so I would probably have room for two more people and luggage.”

Dale Moore was wondering if any classmate remembers Felix Goodshot and Charles Longpumpkin.
Gary Ehrlich left Alliance in our Freshman year ~ Gary has expressed an interest in coming to the 50th reunion.

October birthdays have been posted....the names of the classmates to reply to this email with the correct names and correct picture associated with that name will be mentioned in the November birthday post.
For example:
October (date) ~ (name unscrambled) ~ picture # (??)
Beginning October 2nd and each day after, I will post a clue on one of the other pages of the blog in a strange place. It could be in the middle of the "Table of Contents" page, the top of the "40’s, 50’s, 60’s Pictures" page or any of the other 43 posts that have been published for our 50th Reunion. The clue will look like this "hint ~ Oct ~ Sharon". Good Luck.

This post shows each classmate what we need from them right now regarding birth date and "young" picture ~ somewhere between the ages of 3 and 7. We will update this post later when we start trying to round up all the current pictures and bio information for the reunion booklet.
One classmate is wondering if anyone remembers a Margaret Goodlett from Central School. I don't see Margaret in any of our annuals beginning with 1958. Does anyone know anything about Margaret? Since we have invited about a dozen classmates that didn't graduate with us, we are open to looking for anyone you remember that may be interested in attending our 50th class reunion. Let me know.
We are looking for class photos. We have received:

- Miss Christensen's 4th grade, Grandview School
- 124 classmates are on our list to be invited to the 50th reunion
- 105 classmates have emails
- Half of these classmates have contacted me by email at least once
- The other half ~ I hope you are reading the emails and planning on getting in touch soon so I know that you are getting the information. To date we have had 2700 visitors to the blog...if you're not looking at the posts, you might be missing out!

EMAIL #2 ~ 8/30/10
On August 30, this email was sent to 100 of our classmates ~ within 48 hours, there had been 100 visitors to our blog site ~ information came in for the "I Remember When...." post as well as current pictures and information for the booklet. Again....we discover that our classmates are computer savvy.
We have located all but one of our graduating classmates!!! The missing classmates post on the AHS Class of 1961 blog still lists Doug Young as "missing"...we also have Dale Moore and Rich Camarillo (they didn't graduate with us, but went to school in Alliance for many years ~ we are still searching for them also).
A blog has been set up to keep you informed of plans for our 50th high school class reunion to be held in Alliance (the date will be determined at the next Reunion Committee meeting in October). This web page will help you surf the blog ~ the Table of Contents. If you have gone on the blog previously, you may want to check it out again....quite a few changes have been made.
We hope to solicit interaction among our classmates....a post on the blog entitled "I Remember When...." has been added. Please send any "I remember when...." thoughts to singo2@frontier.com. The site will be updated weekly if not more.

On August 13, 2010 this email was sent to nearly 50 of our classmates (all the current emails available at the time). In the morning there had been 70 hits on the blog site....by the end of the day there were nearly 200 hits. Our classmates are computer savvy!!! The email will be sent to each and every classmate as we receive new and current emails. Thanks everyone for help in finding these classmates.
