ALLIANCE — Dennis E. Shimp, 72, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, at Box Butte General Hospital. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at the Bates- Gould Chapel with Rev. Cheryl Edwards Harris officiating. Burial will be in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery- Alliance. (published in Alliance Times Herald)

I'm still working but somehow it's different when
you work for yourself. Life as I lived until I quit has changed a lot for
both of us. A lot of hard work to get it goin' and let's don't
forget luck and timing.

Dennis E. Shimp, 72, died Friday, September 26, 2014 at Box Butte General Hospital.
He was born on June 3, 1942 in Alliance to Arthur P. and Nola M. (Nowlan) Shimp. He graduated in 1961 from Alliance High School. He then began working for Pepsi Cola Bottling Company and later the Jack & Jill Grocery store here in Alliance.
He joined the U.S. Army on January 23, 1964. His service included a tour of Vietnam working as a Communications Service Specialist. He was honorably discharged on January 9, 1967.
On October 5, 1968 he was united in marriage to Kathy J. Norris in Hedrick, Iowa. To this union two children, Douglas and Kari were born.
Denny worked for the C.B. & Q. Railroad, later Burlington Northern for 30 years. He then began his own business, Track Tech Inc., which he has operated with his family for 20 years. He was a member of the Eagles Club.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy, his son, Douglas, his daughter, Kari and husband, Josh Carr and his 2 granddaughters, Shelby Nicole and Ashley Elizabeth Carr all of Alliance. He is also survived by his sisters, Janice (Paul) Schweitzer of Mitchell and Jeanine Curry of McPherson, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be Friday, October 3 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bates-Gould Chapel with Rev. Cheryl Harris officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Alliance Volunteer Fire Department, 315 Cheyenne Avenue, Alliance, NE 69301 or the Veterans State Cemetery at Alliance Foundation, P.O. Box 902, Alliance, NE 69301.
